10 Greatest Movie Teasers That Used Original Footage
8. The Incredibles
The teaser for 2004's The Incredibles is a brilliant showcase of visual storytelling. It manages to tell a self-contained narrative, describe its main character in detail, and has minimal dialogue.
Opening in a room full of memorabilia and posters, Mr. Incredible receives a call and decides to suit up but finds himself unable to fit in his costume. His surroundings, combined with the visual gag, shows a hero who has had a long and tenured career but is physically past his prime. His wardrobe malfunction is then interrupted by his wife calling him for dinner, informing viewers that aside from hero work, Bob Parr is also a married man.
In less than two minutes, the teaser paints an accurate picture of who Mr. Incredible is and the life he has lived.
This trailer is also known for featuring elements that would be changed in the final cut, such as the absence of his blue suit and using John Barry's On Her Majesty's Secret Service score. But much like Pixar's other trailers at the time, the footage embodied the spirit of The Incredibles and showed why the animation company were the masters of storytelling.
