10 Greatest Opening Scenes In Comic Book Movie History

7. Battle - Hellboy

Hellboy is far from the best comic book movie ever made, but this thrilling opening scene certainly had us hyped from the outset. The film opens in 1944 at the end of World War II, where Rasputin is due to conduct a ceremony for the Nazis which will unleash monsters from another dimension in order to help them defeat the Allies. With comrades Ilsa and brutal assassin Kroenen, Rasputin opens the portal to begin the ceremony, when suddenly, a group of Allied soldiers, including narrator Trevor Bruttenholm, show up to stop it. Cue a brief yet electrifying action scene, as the blade-clad Kroenen murders a good number of the Allied soldiers. Things aren't looking good, until Bruttenholm lobs a grenade at Rasputin's portal machine, causing Rasputin to be dissolved, while Ilsa and Kroenen scarcely manage to escape. While surveying the scene, the Allies then come across a baby demon, complete with red skin, a giant right hand and even a pair of horns. Of course, they call him Hellboy, and a hero is born.
