10 Greatest Over-Acted Performances In Movie History

2. Alan Rickman - Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991)

Gary Oldman Leon
Warner Brothers

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is undeniably a silly movie.

The two main heroes Robin Hood (Kevin Costner) and Will Scarlett (Christian Slater) speak in flawless American accents, undeterred by the Medieval England setting. Then there’s all the soft focus romancey scenes that sort of blend into one.

Don’t let all this put you off though - these American cheeseballs are off on a mission to take down the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). And boy is he dastardly.

Rickman has a natural ability to play a right bastard without having to do much. But in Prince of Theives he decides to do loads, and the result is Rickman being by far the best thing in the movie. Whether he’s madly battering his henchman or bellowing ‘LOOOOOXLEEEEY! I’m going to cut your heart out with a SPOOOOON!’, Rickman steals every single scene without exception.

And to top it all off, Rickman’s line about calling off Christmas was an ad lib. Bravo indeed.
