10 Hardest-To-Watch Movie Scenes

1. Requiem For A Dream - The End

Another, considerably darker moment in films focusing on drug addiction, Aronofsky follows four lives forever changed by their need for another score, as they search for a high from any source possible.

What makes Requiem For a Dream that much more interesting is that it puts elderly Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) into the same story as three heroin addicts, becoming accidentally hooked on weight-loss amphetamines. This provides a complicated edge to our perception of addiction and medication - is Sara the same as her drug-addled son?

In terms of the ending, she may as well be, as no one escapes their fate in this incredibly dark finale. All four drug users are subjected to their own hell. Sara is condemned to electroshock therapy and loses what's left of her mind, her son Harry (Jared Leto) is incarcerated, then has his arm amputated from a nasty injection site infection, and his best friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) is subjected to harsh prison work under racist guards whilst suffering withdrawal.

Marion's fate is seemingly the worst of them all, with her body used as currency for heroin as she continues down the dark path of addiction, visualised in the shocking 'as*-to-as*' sex scene.
