10 Harry Potter Characters Who Are Way Better In The Books
6. Nymphadora Tonks
Nymphadora Tonks is a talented witch with an impressive array of powers. As well as being an Auror (a dark wizard catcher), she’s also a Metamorphmagus, which means she can change her appearance at will.
Tonks shows up at the start of Harry’s fifth adventure as one of the youngest members of the Order of the Phoenix. And whilst actress Natalia Tena does a great job at portraying the bubbly side of Tonks’s personality, those who’ve only seen the movies are getting a simplified version of Rowling’s original character.
In the books, Tonks is much more than a friendly face. She struggles with her mental health in the wake of the Death Eaters’ attack at the Ministry, blaming herself for Sirius’s death. Throughout The Half-Blood Prince, she’s burdened with guilt, and her depression also has an effect on her powers. In addition to struggling with her metamorphosing, her Patronus morphs into a different animal.
This dark period of Tonks’s life is unique to the books, which means her on-screen counterpart is rather bland by comparison.
