10 Harry Potter Characters Who Were Sorted Into The Wrong House
8. Cormac McLaggen
Sorted House: Gryffindor
Correct House: Slytherin
Cormac McLaggen was only featured in The Half-Blood Prince, and there was nothing at all within this sixth volume of the series to suggest that he should be in Gryffindor.
McLaggen’s main relevance to the plot was to act as Ron’s rival for Gryffindor Keeper. After losing out at the try-outs, McLaggen was bitterly resentful, arguing that Ginny had given Ron an ‘easy save’.
His unpleasant actions were further exemplified when he was required to play Keeper when Ron was in the Hospital Wing. Rather than doing his job, he insisted on telling the other players what to do, believing that he knew better than they did.
This big-headed attitude ultimately led to him knocking out Harry with a Beater’s bat when he was trying to demonstrate how to use it properly.
Such self-centred behaviour had no connection to the qualities of Gryffindor. Had McLaggen been a Slytherin, on the other hand, this behaviour would not have been surprising.
