10 Harsh Realities That Completely Ruin Classic Film Happy Endings

Ferris Bueller Pancreas

The Happy Ending

After escaping discovery for the entire day, Bueller manages to make it home without his parents discovering he's gone, before his sister saves him at the last hurdle from Mr Rooney with a little blackmail that saves Ferris from being held back a year. A victory for the naughty boy!

The Harsh Reality

Bueller is uncommitted, and fatally casual about his future - the kind of things one can get away with in high school, and though he is a conquering hero for taking a day off, there's no way he's going to be one of life's winners.

Without the necessary commitment to academia, Ferris would graduate with a poor record, especially if he makes it to college where his lax attitude won't be regulated, and he would fly off the rails badly, crashing and burning, and ending up in a McJob somewhere, silently hating himself. Welcome to Loserville, Ferris. Population: You.
