7. Antichrist (2009)
For whatever reason, there seems to be a small sub-category of horror movies focusing on parents who, in an attempt to get over the death of a child, begin to go insane. Whilst Don't Look Now is the foremost movie in this vein, Antichrist - written and directed by Danish provocateur Lars von Trier - is another notable addition. Like so many of Lars von Trier's movies, Antichrist seems designed to provoke controversy. If you want a film with much genital mutilation, look no further than this twisted, depressing horror experience. Antichrist stars Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsborough as the couple who venture to a remote cabin in the woods in hope that they can salvage their relationship. But not long after they've arrived, things start to get weird - very weird. Visually, this movie is stunning, but on a narrative level it won't be for everyone (a 49% "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes is a testament to that). Antichrist is bleak, hellish and - best of all - there's even a talking fox.
