10 Heart Stopping Horror Movie Chase Scenes You Can't Forget
8. Slaughter High (1986)
Have you ever wanted to just watch something ridiculous? Something with minimal storytelling? Something that requires no concentration? Something just... fun?
If so, Slaughter High might be the movie for you.
In this English-American co-production, British scream queen Caroline Munro leads a group of 40-somethings as they return to their former high school for a ten-year reunion. Little do they know, its all a rouse.
Inside the abandoned school, former student Marty Ranzen awaits them, intent on getting revenge for a cruel disfiguring prank years before.
Slaughter High is chock-full of so-bad-it's-good slasher movie traits. We have lead actors MUCH too old to play their respective characters. There's rural England doubling unconvincingly for the American mid-west. And, of course, we mustn't forget the unconvincing "Yee-haw!" American accents and the unintentionally hilarious overly serious acting.
So, what makes Slaughter High essential slasher movie viewing? Well, that epic ten-minute chase between Caroline Munro and our jingling, giggling Jester-clad villain, for starters.
This chase is simply excellent, and the long, empty school hallways are perfect for sweeping dolly and steadicam shots. Munro is a wonderful damsel in distress who's forced to fight back, and the sight of her pristine white pantaloons billowing in the darkened hallways never fails to raise a chuckle. The extended sequence also has a nasty surprise for us, as Munro hides from approaching footsteps, only to ram an axe into the eye of the wrong person.
If all this isn't enough excitement for you, the scenes are scored by Harry Manfredini, who provides his usual brand of Friday the 13th sound-a-like score - this time adding lots of jingling bells and tubular chimes in line with Marty's horrifying Jester visage and the merry bells that herald his arrival.
Truly slasher movie gold, Slaughter High makes up for 70 minutes of pure cheese with this non-stop game of cat and mouse.
