10 Heroic Movie Characters Who Actually Didn't Affect The Plot

1. Indiana Jones €“ Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Despite being one of the most beloved and praised heroes in modern cinematic history, Indiana Jones fails to really change anything in two of his own films.

As famously discussed in a recent Big Bang Theory episode that annoyed every Indiana Jones fan who could type their outrage, Indy's actions in Raiders Of The Lost Ark achieve precisely nothing.

As The Big Bang Theory's Amy declares the film hinges on a "glaring story problem" in that "Indiana Jones plays no role in the outcome of the story. If he weren't in the film, it would turn out exactly the same... If he weren't in the movie, the Nazis would still have found the Arks, taken it to the island, opened it up, and all died, just like they did."

When you think about it, she's entirely right: Indy merely delays the Nazis finding the Ark - he never actually thwarts them, and he has no hand in their ultimate destruction. Regardless of all of his supposedly heroic actions, he might as well have not turned up, even if he does probably save his ex Marion from death (the Nazis would probably have just killed her when they got to her bar, since they're nasty devils) but even then, that would have saved her from Indy again abusing her fragile heart for a second time, and probably opening every emotional wound he'd caused in the past.

And yet, he's universally loved for his heroism, the opportunist douchebag.

Did we miss any heroes who probably changed nothing? Share any opportunists beneficiaries we might have neglected in the comments section below.
