Also known as The Asylum, Marcus Nispel's Exeter is a supernatural terror that takes place in the ever-wise location of an abandoned mental hospital.

A group of your standard pretty young things head to said locale to party, and they soon realise that there is something a little paranormal about the asylum. Being a horror film, rather than take this as a sign that they should get the F out of dodge, our central protagonists opt to instead have a bit of fun.

When Rory (Michael Ormsby) appears to levitate, our main characters yuck it up and believe this to just be one added layer of partying for their plans. That is, until Rory's starts violently lashing out and speaking in tongues, mind.

Having ended up locked in the asylum, these friends start to be possessed one by one after a DIY exorcism totally backfires. With solid scares and some nice twists, Exeter stands out from the pack in how its spirits get straight to it and don't pull any punches. Likewise, the film deserves extra props for taking a generic bunch of characters and managing to make them relatively likeable; something so many horror films totally fail at.
