10 Hidden Horror Movie Gems From 2020s (So Far)

For your writer, any chance to wax lyrical about Brandon Christensen's Superhost is a chance that will be taken.

To say Superhost is a hidden gem would be a major understatement, for this is a film that really is one of the great horror offerings of the 2020s. It's so simple, so minimalist, but yet so engaging and effective.

Landing on Shudder in late-2021, Superhost is largely a three-pronged offering based around travel vloggers Claire and Teddy, and their titular host Rebecca. For Sara Canning and Osric Chau's social media engagement-driven couple, they venture to various vacation spots for review purposes and to bring in those likes and subscribes.

When Claire and Teddy land at Rebecca's lavish, remote property, they soon realise that their quirky host is someone whose unique personality would surely prove to be an online hit. The problem is, Rebecca - played by a phenomenal Gracie Gillam - is a tad unhinged, as becomes more and more apparent as the film progresses.

Clocking in at a brisk 84 minutes, Superhost is a blast from start to finish, with Gillam in particular a truly magnetic presence as she showcases the various sides of Rebecca.
