What do you get if you cross Men In Black with Ghostbusters? While you'd think this could be a good basis for a thoroughly entertaining - if perhaps mindless - action movie, the end result with R.I.P.D is nothing short of a total disaster. Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges star as the two R.I.P.D. officers tasked with finding out what corrupt detective Bobby Hayes (Kevin Bacon) is really up to, but by the time the film comes to an end the chances of anyone in the audience actually caring are slim to none. This is lazy, by the numbers filmmaking at its worst. Pinpointing why R.I. P. D. doesn't work isn't easy - from the terrible special effects through to the awful script, it falls down in every department. Fortunately it was also a huge flop, so we've been spared another potentially dreadful franchise to add to the long list.
