10 Highest-Grossing '80s Movies Ranked Worst To Best

9. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

Paramount Pictures

Year: 1989

Box Office: $197 million

The general consensus on Indiana Jones movies tends to put Last Crusade second after Raiders Of The Lost Ark, but not everyone can be right and on that front, most people seem to be wrong. Because The Last Crusade is not better than Temple Of Doom, no matter how many times it's claimed.

Sure, it's more charismatic and confident in its own tone and there's more of an air of pure adventure about it, but it doesn't quite match its predecessor for substance. That doesn't mean it's a bad film by any means, nor that it doesn't deserve to be one of the decade's highest grossing movies, because it's still a high-point in the adventure genre.

It's high-points come when it marries action with charm and humour and it's a strong exercise in how to do threequels very well. Sean Connery also makes a strong addition to the brand, adding great chemistry with Harrison Ford where usually this sort of additional family dynamic would be a last desperate grab at a gimmick to improve fortunes. Here, it feels like an organic progression.
