10 Highest Paid Actors & Their Lowest Grossing Movies
1. Leonardo DiCaprio - Total Eclipse
Salary: $25 million per movie
He may not have been in as many movies as much of the people on this list but four-time acting Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio is currently the king of the Hollywood paychecks.
He tops the list because of his $25 million up front fee for Martin Scorsese's controversial hit The Wolf of Wall Street, for which he was nominated for another Oscar, although it's noted that included his producing fee and that budget overruns meant he had to defer some of his salary. Still, that's a huge chunk of change for one role and amazing that he's able to command that sort of salary going forward.
Lowest Grossing Film: Total Eclipse (1995) - $340k
Sandwiched in between the critically acclaimed The Basketball Diaries and Baz Luhrmann's bold Romeo+Juliet, DiCaprio starred in this biographical drama romance as 19th century French poet Arthur Rimbaud and presents a historically accurate portrayal of his passionate and volatile relationship with fellow poet Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis).
The film was a critically failure (25% on Rotten Tomatoes) and, while a few hundred grand is nothing to sniff at, it's not exactly what you would call a success and a far cry from the type of business his movies do now.
