5. Scandinavian Scandal: The Producers

Gene Wilder makes a second appearance on the list thanks to old cohort Mel Brooks' Sixties satire about getting noticed on Broadway - The Producers, an absolute classic. The story - made even more famous via what ironically was a terribly bloated musical - brought us the frantic antics of Zero Mostel's impresario and Wilder's repressed accountant. Deciding they can pocket funds from a surefire flop, they launched the legendarily appalling Springtime For Hitler. Sadly for them the show took off, but not before we had a bloody good laugh into the bargain. Nazis goosestepping for entertainment made the movie controversial, but the sheer twisted heart of the project shone through, propelling Brooks into a career as a film director. What's less palatable about the production today is the flagrant use of Scandinavian blonde Ulla (Lee Meredith), who was called upon to jiggle to pop records whenever Mostel fancied a quick thrill.
