Even the finest actors struggle when it comes to convincingly bawling.

Being capable of leaking out tears on cue is a great skill for any actor to have in their arsenal. It can sell a scene, make a movie more memorable, and in certain cases even pave the way towards a golden statue at the Academy Awards. However, it's not enough to simply produce gallons of snot and tears when a critical moment arrives, because the act of crying does not guarantee an emotional reaction in an audience. Sometimes an actor's crying technique can be counter-productive - so terrible or distracting that it becomes the main attraction, superseding the emotions that should be the central focus. Even worse, sometimes an actor's crying can be so jarring that it deflates a scene entirely.Through a combination of inhuman mouth shapes, disturbing lip quivers, wild, bulging eyes and high volume shrieking a surprising number of actors have managed to turn what should have been a moment of mournful reflection into something inappropriately laughable, and in the process ruined the entire scene.
