Being capable of leaking out tears on cue is a great skill for any actor to have in their arsenal. It can sell a scene, make a movie more memorable, and in certain cases even pave the way towards a golden statue at the Academy Awards. However, it's not enough to simply produce gallons of snot and tears when a critical moment arrives, because the act of crying does not guarantee an emotional reaction in an audience. Sometimes an actor's crying technique can be counter-productive - so terrible or distracting that it becomes the main attraction, superseding the emotions that should be the central focus.
