10 Hilariously Unthreatening Movie Villains

2. Howard Saint - The Punisher

Lions Gate Films

When the Punisher got his second movie adaptation in 2004, it came with a new origin story for vigilante Frank Castle. As if taking away the man's wife and kids wasn't enough, writer and director Jonathan Henseligh decided to wipe out his entire family. Aunts, uncles, cousins - the works.

Instead of the traditional picnic crossfire, gangsters dropped in on a beachside family reunion, murdering every single person in Frank's family. The man responsible for this massacre? Gangster Howard Saint, as played by Pulp Fiction star John Travolta.

Now, we know Travolta can deliver the goods when needs be (see again: Pulp Fiction) but The Punisher is not his finest work. Not all of the blame can lay at Travolta's feet though - a low-rent Punisher (with apologies to Tom Jane, who tried hard) deserves a low-rent villain, and Saint is all gangster cliche without flair.

In a time when Punisher comics were at their most outrageous and the villains their most colourful, there's no excuse for this whiny cuckold. What, no Ma Gnucci?
