10 Historical Revenge Fantasies That Quentin Tarantino Could Tackle Instead Of The Hateful Eight
7. The Vietnam War - My Lai Massacre (1968)
Moving forward and away from the Second World War, the Vietnam War stands as one of the biggest historical stains of the 20th century. Classic cinematic representations from Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now) and Oliver Stone (Platoon) notwithstanding, Quentin Tarantino could make something completely unique with this war if he felt so inclined. In Django Unchained, the American white man is evil personified, and it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Calvin Candie's heirs mixed up in some of the atrocities committed in Vietnam. The My Lai Massacre is a prominent example. The mass murder of over 400 Vietnamese civilians (including gang-raped women, and infants) in the village of Son My was a media sensation, and did a lot to fuel antiwar sentiment. Out of the twenty six soldiers charged for the massacre, only one was convicted and he ended up serving a measly three years. Enter Tarantino to fill the void left by the injustice with his signature retelling. Seeing as how women and children were among the victims, a female family member who makes it her mission to take down the American officers in charge, slicing mementos (not scalps this time) for keepsakes, sounds like something that could easily flow from Tarantino's pen.
