10 Historical Revenge Fantasies That Quentin Tarantino Could Tackle Instead Of The Hateful Eight
5. NASA - The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster (1986)
History books aren't just filled with massacres and genocides. If Tarantino was feeling extra creative, there are various incidents he could look to for juicy re-invention, while also dipping his feet in a new genre. Sticking out of the pack is the NASA disaster in 1986, when the space shuttle Challenger was launched into space and, due to a mechanical failure, disintegrated 73 seconds after launch, instantly killing its seven crew members. The story got a lot of coverage because Christa McAuliffe was going to be the first teacher in space thanks to a NASA program, but ended up losing her life instead. Her friend and backup, Barbara Morgan, could join the ranks of Tarantino heroines out for some revenge. The main cause of the malfunction was due to the solid rocket booster (SRB), designed by the corporation Morton Thiokol. While the Rogers Commission was designated by President Reagan to investigate the accident, the parties responsible ended up paying a monetary penalty fee and continued to work. In Tarantino's fantasy, things wouldn't be that easy. Morgan could take matters into her own hands, and go after the engineers and contractors from Thiokol, in a sci-fi court-drama turned woman vs. corporation revenge tale. For added effect, she could use space shuttle tools (like the rubber O-ring which failed to seal onto the SRB) in some innovative ways.
