10 Hit Horror Movies That DIDN'T Get Sequels

6. It Follows (2014)

Continuing with the theme of tough curses to crack, It Follows manifests its curse in truly terrifying fashion. The curse is a vague It. All It does is slowly Follow you. It can take the form of any person that could be nearby. When it catches up with you it kills you, then pursues the person who passed the curse on to them. And the curse is passed on by having sex.

It Follows made over ten times its $2 million budget and the critics loved it, but it doesn’t have a horror-movie posterboy like Freddy or Pinhead to stick on any franchise branding. The changeable nature of the threat means it could symbolise anything.

The most obvious reading may be that it is a parable for the dangers of unsafe sex. But there’s more going on in It Follows. When and where is it taking place? Why are there no adults apart from those that appear as a manifestation of the curse? Will It ever stop Following?

These questions could all be answered in It Follows 2 and beyond, but that doesn’t mean they should be. The film’s dreamlike ambiguity is what makes it so nightmarish. The curse is all the more terrifying for these unanswered questions. It Follows is an unexplainable, unstoppable evil.

Naturally, some discussion of a sequel HAS happened, but we're no closer yet.
