Following in the footsteps of his actor father Martin Sheen who was born with the beautifully poetic name Ramón Gerard Antonio Estévez and changed it after he felt his Latino name put off casting agents, Carlos Estévez adopted his father’s new last name and went with an anglicised form of his first.

His older brother Emilio Estévez, however, decided against changing his name stating he wanted to make a name for himself without being thought as of Martin Sheen’s son. Being proud of his Spanish heritage, it’s a decision Emilio is glad he made especially in light of the fact that his dad apparently always regretted ditching his birth name.

Charlie did temporarily re-adopt his birth name for the 2013 Robert Rodriguez film Machete Kills in which he plays the President of the United States. It’s rumoured the move was inspired by the film’s Hispanic themes but whatever the reason, Carlos Estévez definitely sounds a lot more badass than Charlie Sheen.
