10 Home Invasion Horror Movies That Broke All The Rules

6. Intruders - The Victims Aren’t Really Just Victims

The Purge
Tommy V Productions

This starts off as just another typical break-in scenario. Anna, the homeowner, offers deliveryman Dan a large sum of money after they grow close over the years, with him being a constant in her life as she cared for her sick brother before his death.

Dan makes the mistake of telling his buddies about Anna’s offer, which motivates them to break into her house and attempt to steal her cash. We feel pretty bad for Anna - not only has her brother just died of cancer but then 3 horrible men break into her home and even kill her pet bird. She’s having a really rough week!

Well innocent little agoraphobic Anna isn’t everything we thought she was. As she starts getting her own back on the intruders, various contraptions and monitoring systems around the house betray her darker nature. It is revealed that prior to his death, Anna’s brother was a serial killer who murdered peadophiles in the basement, including his own father.

When you’re faced with two different kinds of criminal it makes it difficult to fully root for one of them, so this added moral dimension helps set this film apart from the rest.
