5. Cliffhanger 2: The Dam
One of the most unexpectedly effective films of Sylvester Stallone's oeuvre, Cliffhanger is a taut, suspenseful thriller that racked up a strong box office tally, and as such it wasn't long before the idea of a sequel was floated about, with Stallone himself on board. The sequel would have had his character trying to help block a gigantic dam, yet of course, with the 1996 release of Daylight, a film with a fairly similar premise surrounding a blocked tunnel, Cliffhanger 2 was put on ice. Though I don't really understand why the studio heads didn't just hire somebody else to concoct another idea, I'm glad they didn't, because Cliffhanger would have just become another franchise that ran itself into the ground, just as Stallone's Rocky and Rambo series had prior.
