It has become synonymous with cinematic infamy for its non stop repulsive scenes. In one scene, a penis gets chopped off, in another, someone is skewered on a spike and there are several grotesque rape scenes throughout the whole of the movie. But the scene which really stands out for its cruelty and vileness is the scene which features the killing of a turtle. The scene is horrible enough, but when you realise that an actual turtle was tortured and forced to suffer for the scene, it really makes you feel sick. The turtle is essentially decapitated and has its limbs torn apart and it really is one of the most horrid things ever filmed. A turtle wasn't the only animal harmed during filming, but it's the one that stands out for its brutality, and the world would be a slightly better place if we could all just forget about it. Even director, Ruggero Deodato admitted he went too far.
