10 Horror Films Set At Halloween To Scare You Perfectly In The Mood

1. Trick 'R Treat

Trick 'r Treat is the A Christmas Story of Halloween. In the same way that movie is played on TV all day on December 25, Trick 'r Treat should be aired on repeat all throughout October 31st. The movie is an anthology that tells four separate interwoven stories talking place on Halloween night, calling to mind Halloween III and pointing towards where that franchise could have headed.

A lot of these Halloween films have an overall spooky atmosphere and a few scenes of a Halloween party or trick or treating, but this movie is absolutely in love with Halloween, and every single frame reflects that. There's holiday parades, candy, pumpkins, orange lights, leaves everywhere, creepy costumes, and each second is bursting with orange. Not only that, but the plot actually revolves around what the holiday means to us as a society.

All of the stories are unique, and they're tied together by the cute but terrifying Sam. Director Michael Dougherty set out to give Halloween its own mascot like Santa or the Easter Bunny, and he absolutely succeeded. Above even Halloween, Trick 'r Treat is the movie that should be your October 31st tradition. You know that rush you got while trick or treating as a kid and sensing the playful spookiness in the air? Trick 'r Treat delivers that rush in a tangible form for adults.
