2025 is set to be a massive year for these horror franchises.

2024 has been another banner year for horror, with so many great movies making their way to the silver screen or to streaming. And amongst some of those impressive offerings, we've nicely revisited several familiar properties, with the likes of The First Omen, Alien: Romulus, A Quiet Place: Day One, Smile 2, and Terrifier 3 causing quite the stir, and Shudder's The Creep Tapes being a welcome return for ol' Peachfuzz.

Looking ahead at what lies on the horizon in 2025, we're once again set to see certain franchises taking the spotlight. For better or worse, next year has the potential to be a hugely important year for some of those returning series. Get it right, and 2025 could only further boost the stock of a successful property or turn the ship of a previously sagging one. Get it wrong, and it could simply mean curtains for a franchise.

Here's hoping that 2025 is a great year for horror hounds, and if that is indeed to prove the case, the following franchises could well find themselves in the conversation when wrapping up the best of 2025 when next year rolls to a close.

Creators Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass have talked up a third Creep movie as far back as the release of Creep 2 back in 2017. And following the warm welcome The Creep Tapes - the Shudder TV series exploring a different one of the killer's victims in each episode - received at the end of 2024, hopefully that will be enough to make Creep 3 a reality.

Both Brice and Duplass have said they've got potential stories for Duplass' mysterious maniac for years to come, and it's been stated at several points how there have been a couple of versions of Creep 3 already written. For the duo, it's about making sure the story is right, with the two having previously noted a smidge of disappointment with how Creep 2 ultimately turned out.

While Creep 2 admittedly didn't hit the heights of its predecessor - being good, not great - The Creep Tapes was most certainly a grand return to form, with Josef/Aaron/Bill/Jeff/Whoever at his crazed best, luring in a fresh victim with each episode, with those episodes essentially being the footage that was seen on the ominous VHS tapes glanced at the end of the first Creep.

Given the renewed interest generated by The Creep Tapes, the time has never been as ripe for Creep 3 to finally come to fruition.
