10 Horror Movie Backstories That Get Worse The More You Think About It
3. Asami Yamazaki - Audition (1999)
After Shigeharu (Ryo Ishibashi) strikes-up a relationship with the mild-mannered Asami (Ehi Shiina), suspicions are raised when nobody can find out anything about who she is.
Snippets of information we gleam about her throughout the course of Shigeharu’s ensuring investigation into who she is, suggest that she’s not the person we thought she was. However, what makes Asami especially intriguing is that we’re never sure if what we learn is true or the product of Shigeharu’s own imaginings.
If what we discover is true, Asami was the victim of a lifetime of abuse. Her aunt physically abused her as a child and her stepfather despised her. Things only worsened when her ballet instructor took advantage of her for his own twisted pleasure, burning her legs with metal rods.
She’d then get revenge on the instructor by decapitating him with razor wire before continuing her violent behaviour against men who wronged her. This included a record producer who disappeared at the same time as a grisly murder occurred in the bar Asami worked at. Most disturbing, though, is a mutilated man she keeps in a bag and feeds vomit.
Asami is unquestionably evil. It's how she possibly became that way that makes her so interesting.
