10 Horror Movie Characters Who Survived Horrific Injuries
7. Jen Is Impaled On A Tree - Revenge
Coralie Fargeat's revisionist rape-revenge film Revenge is an incredible feminist riff on the typically exploitative horror subgenre, in which a woman, Jen (Matilda Lutz), is raped and then left for dead.
After being sexually violated, Jen is thrown off a cliff by one of her assailants, where she falls a solid 50 feet and is brutally impaled on a tree.
Considering how sharp a tree branch would have to be to impale someone falling from such a height, there's simply no way it wouldn't skewer Jen's internal organs and cause her death.
This is without getting into the fact that Fergeat lingers on the blistering heat Jen lies unconscious in for a considerable amount of time, all while ants feast upon her large wound. Infection is a damn certainty.
From there, Jen patches herself up - taking peyote to numb the pain and cauterising her wound with a heated beer can - before seeking revenge on her three attackers.
But before she secures her vengeance, Jen also has to suffer through her earlobe getting blown off with a rifle. Yup.
Were Revenge not such a thoroughly entertaining remix of a tired subgenre, it might be tempting to pick holes in its implausibility, but if you can accept Jen's improbable survival from that initial cliff fall, a ludicrously enjoyable movie awaits.
