10 Horror Movie Characters Who Went Through Hell (Then Died Anyway)

6. Fallen

Drag Me To Hell
Warner Bros.

Released in 1998, the underrated psychological horror Fallen sees Denzel Washington play the beleaguered detective John Hobbes. Throughout this dark and brutal film, our anti-hero is mentally tortured by the twisted psychological machinations of a copycat killer.

But the string of gruesome murders isn’t where his trauma ends.

No, instead Hobbes’ very understanding of the world around him is torn apart when he discovers this copycat killer is actually an ageless demon possessing people and hopping between bodies whenever the detective is close to catching him. With this bombshell dropped, the monster wastes no time setting up all manner of twisted mind games to break the detective down.

Hobbes is shattered by the revelation, his mind warped as the vicious villain possesses his friends and nephew, attacks his brother, and leaves him paranoid and hopeless. But hey, at least at by the end of the film, our hero…

Actually dies after all.

And doesn’t stop the villain in the process, because it can possess cats if it wants to.

Nice one.
