10 Horror Movie Characters You Totally Expected To Die... But Didn’t

5. Ted Bowen - Friday the 13th: Part 2

Let's face it, we don't expect many people to make it out of a Friday the 13th film alive, but we do expect them to be memorable while they are still clinging to their mortal coil. And newly recruited camp counsellor Ted is a real stand-out character in Friday the 13th Part 2.

Immediately standing out as a bit of a goofball, Ted was granted a lot of screen time in this sequel's first two acts, which is Friday the 13th shorthand for 'this guy's dead meat', and fans and critics alike found him to be highly amusing and genuinely charming for his mischievous behaviour. Still, we very much expect Ted to meet a grisly end, but there's a sudden turn in Part 2's second act.

There, lead counsellor Paul informs Camp Crystal Lake's new recruits that they've got one last chance for a night on the town before the kids arrive in the morning; a proposition that many of them take up, including Ted.

We do see Ted at the bar with the others, but unlike final girl Ginny, he doesn't return to Camp Crystal Lake that evening, ultimately surviving the night of bloodshed by default.
