10 Horror Movie Facts That Will Blow Your Mind
7. Real Bees Were Used In Candyman
If you ever thought that Candyman had some remarkably realistic insects for Tony Todd to spit everywhere whilst scaring the crap out of everyone, you wouldn't be too far off the mark. The man really put the bee in believable by wielding a mouth full of real life bees whilst bringing his eminently creepy urban legend to life, committing to his character's gimmick without even a sniff of CGI.
That meant the only thing stopping him from getting a lungful of stingers was one thin mouth guard and some telepathic bee magic to keep them all calm, allowing the little guys to crawl over his face in the name of making horror movie history.
Apparently, the crew wanted them to look as realistic as possible with the least likelihood of hurting Todd, so opted for newborn bees which look fully grown but don't have as strong of a sting should they get riled up by, you know, being held captive in someone's mouth for extended periods of time. Better hope he laid off the honey nut cornflakes on this one.
