10 Horror Movie Facts That Will Blow Your Mind
5. The Blair Witch Project Made Acting A Scavenger Hunt
The granddaddy of the found footage genre, The Blair Witch Project did things a little differently all round when it came to the filmmakers bizarre filming choices - and let's be fair, there had never been anything quite like this movie before, so all bets were off when it came to standard practise.
When the directors needed locks of hair to make the witch's bundles, they took it from their actors, when they needed teeth to go with them, they borrowed them from their local dentist, and when they needed the protagonists to be absolutely clueless in the woods - they hid their scripts and instructions for the day placed with a GPS tracker inside a hidden milk crate cache that they had to hunt down each morning.
Inside, the actors would be able to read a rough outline that they could then improvise to, so they never knew quite what was going on at any point during filming. Coupled with only being allowed to break their traumatised character work if they said 'taco', and the whole thing just starts to sound like a bad mushroom trip at a scout camp.
