10 Horror Movie Final Girls Who Suffered The Most

5. Nancy Thompson - A Nightmare On Elm Street

A Nightmare On Elm Street Freddy Krueger
New Line Cinema

A Nightmare on Elm Street's Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) suffers in a highly unique way quite unlike any other final girl on this list.

Beyond being terrorised by serial killer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), his dream-faring ways deny her the most basic of life's pleasures: a good night's sleep.

Nancy has to witness her friends, her boyfriend, and eventually her mother be killed by Freddy in the first film, all while finding creative ways to avoid falling asleep and succumbing to him herself.

And Nancy's nightmare doesn't end there: she returns for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, where she trains a group of youngsters to battle Freddy and ends up mortally wounded while taking him down once again. Boo.

Despite being dead and all, Nancy is sort-of resurrected in the gloriously meta seventh installment, New Nightmare, where Heather Langenkamp plays a fictionalised version of herself who must ultimately re-assume the role of Nancy in order to destroy Freddy.

Honestly the sleep deprivation alone is enough to put Nancy on this list, and so all the surrounding death really just clinches it.
