10 Horror Movie Remakes You Must Never Watch

4. Thir13en Ghosts

Martyrs remake
Warner Bros.

The original 13 Ghosts centres around a family who inherit a mansion haunted by spirits that can only be seen while wearing spectral goggles. The film was nothing special, but had a lot of cheesy, dumb fun.

But the remake, confusingly titled Thir13en Ghosts, took this dumb plot and somehow, made it dumber. As before, the story follows a family who inherit a vast estate, after their relative, Cyrus Kriticos, passes away. Shortly after arriving, the family discover their new home is filled 12 vengeful phantoms.

But in the climax, it's revealed that Cyrus is alive and hiding in the house. He faked his death, hoping to lure the family to his abode so he could turn one of them into the thirteenth and final ghost to activate a machine that will allow Cyrus to see through time. This revelation is so inane, it ruins every positive aspect of the film. The titular ghosts are creative and haunting, and all the actors do a fine job, especially Tony Shalhoub. But the story gets so ridiculous near the end, it's impossible take any of it seriously.
