10 Horror Movie Retcons Everyone HATED

5. The Broken Timeline - Omen III: The Final Conflict

Omen III: The Final Conflict takes place when the Antichrist Damien Thorn (Sam Neill) is now 32 years of age, with the story taking place in 1982.

Except, this makes no sense at all considering that the original Omen film released in 1976 - when Damien was just five years of age - is also clearly supposed to be set around the mid-70s, due to the cars, fashion, technology, and so on.

Damien: Omen II, released in 1978, takes place seven years after the events of the first movie when Damien is 12 years old, placing it at around 1982, so it makes no immediate sense for Omen III to also be set in 1982.

Basically, Omen III pushed Damien's date of birth back to 1950 - around 20 years before his implied birth date in the original film - and hoped nobody would notice or care.

But it certainly annoyed fans who picked up on it, and is evidently the result of poor planning, that the filmmakers didn't consider the possibility of releasing a sequel with a decades-older Damien so soon after the first one was released.
