10 Horror Movie Robots That Scared Us Out Of Our Minds
9. Hector - Saturn 3
Saturn 3 centres around two astronauts, Adam and Alex, who are stationed on a remote base. One day, they are visited by a scientist called Benson, who's tasked with imprinting his personality onto a robot to help with the base's systems. Since Benson has murderous tendencies and lusts for Alex, his robot, Hector, develops these traits, and goes haywire.
There's no other way to put it - Saturn 3 is an utter crapfest. (Still can't believe it was directed by the same guy who made Singing' in the Rain.) Thanks to the derivative story, cheesy dialogue, and amateur effects, not even Kirk Douglas, Harvey Keitel, and Farrah Fawcett can save this travesty.
To the film's credit, Hector is genuinely intimidating, even by today's standards. Although movie robots during the 80s are usually unconvincing, Hector looks like an authentic android. Rather than slapping a few screws and bolts together, the film's crew spent a million dollars on creating Hector - a staggering amount for a low-budget sci-fi flick. Standing 8ft tall and blaring out a high-pitched frequency every time he appears, it's impossibly not to find Hector creepy. impossible not to find him
In fact, Hector only has one drawback - he should've been in a better movie.
