10 Horror Movie Scenes That Genuinely Terrified Actors

9. Getting Stabbed For Real - Scream

While shooting a scene, the performers are expected to act with a certain level of professionalism. If something throws them off or genuinely alarms them, they should carry on to the best of their ability.

However, it's really tough for an actor to commit when they're in pain. Sadly, Skeet Ulrich learned this while filming Scream.

During the climax, his character, Billy reveals to Sidney that he and Stu are the serial killers who've been terrorising Woodsboro. While Billy is distracted, Sidney manages to stab him in the chest with an umbrella.

To avoid being hurt, the umbrella had a retractable tip and Ulrich wore a protective vest under his shirt. But when he was stabbed the second time, the umbrella missed the vest entirely, striking the young actor in the chest. Worse still, the tip hit an old scar Ulrich sustained after having open-heart surgery. Because the wound was still tender, Ulrich's agonising scream in this moment was totally legit. Director Wes Craven thought Ulrich's response was so perfect, he left it in.

So, the moral of the story is simple - If you want to look like you're in real pain while filming a scene, get stabbed for real.
