10 Horror Movie Scenes That Genuinely Terrified Actors
7. Dracula - The Monster Squad
The Monster Squad was a dream come true for horror fans, since it was the first film to feature the five classic Universal Monsters - Dracula, The Mummy, The Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein's Monster.
Even though it was a campy fantasy rather than an outright horror, The Monster Squad had its fair share of genuine frights, especially from the Prince of Darkness himself, Count Dracula. Duncan Regehr was so disturbing as the Transylvanian Count, he had to act LESS intimidating while performing his scene with Ashley Bank. Because Ashley was only five years old, the filmmakers were worried she would be scared stiff in Dracula's presence. Not wanting to traumatise a child for life, Regehr agreed not to wear his fangs or red contact lenses in the shot where he leers at Ashley.
Despite these restrictions, the director had no trouble getting the reaction he wanted. As soon as Regehr grabbed little Ashely, she screamed for real. The shot was so perfect, it didn't even require a second take. (It makes you wonder how Ashley would've responded if Regehr wore the red contacts and fangs. She probably would've had a heart attack!)
