10 Horror Movie Scenes That Genuinely Terrified Actors
5. The Actors Got Lost For Real - The Blair Witch Project
Because The Blair Witch Project had a 35-minute outline rather than a set-in-stone script, many scenes relied on improvisation. This decision worked in the fake documentary's favour, since many of the actors' reactions were extremely convincing.
When Heather, Josh, and Mike are sleeping, they had no idea the crew was going to shake their tent. As a result, their panicked fight-or-flight response is 100% genuine. During one of the night scenes, Michael C. Williams found it deeply unnerving when the crew played a recording of children noises. Heather Donahue said she was so shaken while filming the climax, she was crying and hyperventilating for real.
Although these moments were planned by the filmmakers, one of The Blair Witch Project's most iconic scenes was a complete accident. Around an hour into the movie, the trio become furious when they realise they've been walking all day, only to wind up in the same spot they started in.
Contrary to popular belief, there's no acting in this scene. The cast did get lost, and were genuinely annoyed they had been wandering in circles for hours. Because of the actors' bona fide frustration, the filmmakers kept the scene in.
