10 Horror Movie Scenes You Remember Totally Wrong
4. It's Stripe, Not Spike - Gremlins
In Gremlins, Billy is over the moon when his father gifts him with an adorable mogwai called Gizmo. However, Billy's joy turns to horror when Gizmo gives birth to a litter of troublesome critters. And when Gizmo's spawn mutate into gremlins, it isn't long before the whole town is being terrorised by the devilish imps.
Although there are hundreds of gremlins, the only one that's named is the primary villain, Stripe. He's adaptable, resourceful, cunning, and utterly ruthless. He also has such a cool design, he often features on the film's poster over Gizmo. Even though he's only appeared in one movie, Stripe successfully became a 1980s horror icon.
And yet, many Gremlins fans can't remember his name! Because of his spiky mohawk, a lot viewers falsely believe the gun-toting, chainsaw-wielding monster is called Spike. But if you listen carefully, you can hear the characters call him Stripe, most notably when Billy first sees him after the little terror is reborn as a gremlin.
Although Stripe's name is set in stone, it hasn't stopped fans arguing about it for the last 40 years.
