10 Horror Movie Sequels That Pissed Everyone Off
9. Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
The Blair Witch Project may have received mixed reviews upon its initial release but no one can contest how influential it has become. Because it made $248 million on a $60,000 budget, it held the Guinness World Record for biggest box office ratio, earning nearly $11,000 for every dollar put into it. It was also the most successful independent film upon its release and is directly responsible for popularising found-footage horror and viral marketing.
Because of The Blair Witch Project's unprecedented success, the studio was always going to cash in with a sequel. Even though everyone connected with the first film wanted more time to work on a script, the studio shoved out the follow-up, Book of Shadows, only one year later.
Sadly, this film has nothing in common with the original, save for the title. First off, there is no found-footage. Secondly, the Blair Witch isn't in it. Thirdly, there is no Book of Shadows!
This film doesn't even work in its own right since the camerawork, sporadic cuts, and dire editing is so appalling, it feels like the filmmakers were deliberately trying to make the story as indecipherable as possible.
