10 Horror Movie Sequels That Pissed Everyone Off
2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
With the success of 2018's Halloween, it wasn't surprising when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre attempted to reinvigorate itself in a similar manner.
And by "similar", I mean "identical" since both revitalisations centre around the original survivor going head-to-head with the masked serial killer who hounded them decades ago. This decision could be forgiven somewhat if the movie did justice to the heroine of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sally Hardesty.
Sadly, the filmmakers couldn't do that right. Although the actress portraying Sally, Olwen Fouéré, does a serviceable job, the character's late introduction and sudden death makes her appearance feel tacked on and desperate.
The 2022 version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn't realise that 2018's Halloween didn't work just because it brought back the original character but because it successfully emulated the tension and atmosphere of the original.
Sadly, this film fails at that as well. Due to idiotic and unlikable characters, a forced social commentary, and clumsy dialogue, you couldn't care less when Leatherface starts skewering his victims to pieces. When the best part of a movie is its brevity, you know the filmmakers screwed up.
