10 Horror Movie Sequels That Should Have Ended Their Series
3. Insidious: Chapter 2
James Wan's low-budget chiller Insidious was a surprise hit when it first released back in 2010. Its deceptively simple set-up lead most to believe it was your standard haunted house yarn, but by the final act, it veered into the realm of fantasy and piled on the lore so thick that it did away with the trowel and just emptied the cement mixer on there.
A direct follow-up to the original that ties up all the loose ends is a rare treat within the horror genre and Insidious 2 almost managed that feat by capping off the story of the Lambert family but ending with a sequel-baiting hook that naturally leads to two more unneeded sequels that did very little to push the boat out creatively.
Whilst the subsequent sequels greatly expanded on the lore and gave the ever-brilliant Lin Shaye a chance to shine, they lacked the emotional epicenter that was the Lambert family. Without them, the Insidious series quickly fell into the trap of cliché scares and convoluted narratives that didn't fit the framework of what had come before.
Sure, they're fun movies for this time of year, but they're lacking those special ingredients that captivated us at the start.
