10 Horror Movie Sequels That Totally Insulted Great Characters

4. Andy Barclay - Cult Of Chucky

The original owner of must-have Good Guy Doll/ cursed voodoo artefact Chucky, Andy Barclay has one of horror’s longest and saddest stories, having spent over three decades in the genre tormented by his killer toy nemesis. After spending the first trio of Child’s Play films trying to hunt down and kill Andy with varying levels of focus, Chucky finally gave him a break when it came time for the franchise’s funnier fourth and fifth instalments, the meta-comedies Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.

However, 2013’s Curse of Chucky saw Chucky back to his meanest, least comically self-referential old self, and the pint-sized terror brought with him the return of a now-adult Andy. And what an Andy he was! Only appearing in a post-credits stinger, Andy was now an ultra-prepared shotgun-wielding badass who dispatched Chucky with a quick Bruce Campbell style quip. Awesome ending, right?

Right… If 2017’s Cult of Chucky hadn’t rewritten this ending to turn Andy into an obsessed lunatic who spends his days torturing Chucky’s disembodied head, eventually falling victim to another incarnation of the infamous killer doll (long story), and losing his long battle despite making all the right moves since he was all of about seven. Brutal stuff, Don Mancini.
