10 Horror Movie Twists That Pissed Everyone Off

4. Gordon The Apprentice - Saw 3D

Urban Legends: Final Cut

By the time of Saw 3D, the bloom was well and truly off the rose for this once great franchise. Seven movies in, the Saw IP had become riddled with clichés and outdated torture porn tropes. Here, the traps, gore and gimmicky 3D of the picture are the prime focus, with minimal attention paid to delivering an even mildly passable plot.

Perfectly summarising the ham-fisted nature of Saw 3D, the final act twist of Cary Elwes' Dr. Gordon - as in, one of the main victims of the first Saw movie - being an apprentice of Jigsaw was just ridiculous.

We'd already seen drug addict Amanda as a student of John Kramer, and that was followed up by Detective Hoffman working under the charming killer. The Hoffman reveal itself was one some found hard to swallow, and here in Saw 3D it its indeed Costas Mandylor's dirty cop who is parading around as Jigsaw. When Kramer's wife Jill gives the game away and informs the law that one of its own is responsible for the latest spate of murders, Hoffman is on a mission to hunt her down.

Once Saw 3D's final act sees Hoffman execute Jill with the classic reverse beartrap, it's then that we get the twist that Dr. Gordon is another apprentice of Kramer's. One of three people donning the infamous pig masks, Gordon locks Hoffman up in the bathroom from the first film, with it revealed that this plan had been put in place by the original Jigsaw should Hoffman ever harm Jill.
