10 Horror Movie Twists That Were Hiding In Plain Sight
6. The Food Is The Key - Orphan
In Orphan, Kate and John Coleman decide to adopt a child called Esther to help them with their troubled marriage. When they notice a series of accidents occurred immediately after adopting the girl, the Coleman's suspect there's something seriously wrong with Esther.
And they are right. Not only is she a cold-blooded killer, she's not even a child. Due to a hormone deficiency, Esther looks like a girl despite being in her 30s. Esther has pretended to be a child for years, so she can finally be embraced by a loving family.
In hindsight, this twist seems obvious. Esther constantly wears thick, frilly dresses to hide her grown-up figure. Her adoptive family find it odd how Esther spends so much time getting ready in the morning, unaware she's applying makeup to look younger.
However, the most discernible clue of Esther's true age is how she eats. To hide her adult teeth, Esther wears child-like dentures. Because of this, she has to chop up all her food in tiny pieces to eat. The film isn't coy about this detail at all since there's an entire scene dedicated to her step-brother belittling Esther for the way she cuts up her food.
