10 Horror Movie Villains Who Were Recruited For Evil

1. Chucky - Child’s Play (1988)

Childs Play 3
Universal

When you're on the run from the police after committing a series of brutal murders, transferring your soul into a seemingly innocent child's toy to escape capture might seem like a great idea, but can have significant consequences.

Chased by Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) across Chicago's South Side, serial killer, Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) is on borrowed time. Shot several times by Norris, the mortally wounded Ray races into a toy shop and, with his last ounce of strength, performs a voodoo ritual that transfers his soul into a Good Guy Doll, destroying the toy shop in the process.

Now calling himself "Chucky", Ray is believed to be dead, but is actually giving the term "in hiding" a brand new definition. Delighting at first how his newfound form can aid his crimes, Chucky soon also learns about the drawbacks.

Discovering that the longer he stays in the doll's body, the more human he will become and that he can only escape by transferring his soul into the first person who discovered his identity, Chucky tries to transfer himself into the body of Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), who he was bought as a present for.

Failing to do that, Chucky is motivated by revenge, not only against Andy, but on all those who he feels wronged him.

Suffice to say that, whilst Ray might not like being forced to live as a child's toy, it does have its advantages...

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
