10 Horror Movie Villains Who Were Recruited For Evil
8. Dr. William Weir - Event Horizon (1997)
What do you do when you’ve lost your wife, a ground-breaking space vessel and are then trapped aboard that vessel, which has returned from Hell itself and is tormenting you with visions of your late wife? Well, if you’re as obsessive as Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill) and have the sort of "vision" where you don't "need eyes to see", you go homicidally insane!
The designer of the vessel, the Event Horizon, which has the power to create an artificial black hole using a gravity drive to transport it from one part of the universe to another, is clearly troubled from the outset.
At first, finding the Event Horizon in a decaying orbit around Neptune is a source of hope for Weir. However, the ship, which has killed its original crew and wishes to transport fresh victims back to Hell, soon starts influencing Weir, forcing him to pluck out his own eyes and turn on the crew of rescue ship, Lewis and Clark.
Intent on taking his former allies, Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), Lieutenant Starck (Joely Richardson), Rescue Technician Cooper (Richard T. Jones) and Chief Engineer Justin (Jack Noseworthy) with him to Hell, Weir activates the gravity drive that will open a black hole to Hell. Once there, the crew will be subjected to unbelievable torment, torture and likely death.
Tormenting Miller with his own past, Weir cannot prevent him from destroying part of the ship, saving Starck, Cooper and Justin. Miller, however, is forced to accompany Weir to Hell, where their fates remain unknown.
