5. Hostel: Part II’s Mrs. Bathory

Hostel: Part II is the definition of gore porn. The slasher series, which contains scenes so disturbing it was banned from theatrical release in several countries. Upping the ante of its predecessor, Hostel: Part II follows a similar premise: A group of 20-something American travelers are kidnapped, tortured, and murdered for sport, sex, and plain old sadism by members of the Elite Hunting club.

Sasha Rassimov, the boss of the aforementioned Elite Hunting club, provides uber-wealthy and deeply disturbed clientele with kidnapped foreigners with whom they are encouraged to do whatever the hell they want. In Hostel, we meet plenty of fancy freaks, including a cannibal businessman and a wealthy woman, Mrs. Bathory, who, quite literally, loves a good blood bath.

Paying top dollar to string up and bleed out a young girl to bathe in her blood, Bathory was inspired by… well… Báthory. The real Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed was even more monstrous and bloodthirsty. Between 1585 and 1609, the Hungarian noblewoman by hiring young girls as maids and firing said maids by way of exsanguination. As a firm believer in the (bloody) Fountain of Youth and the restorative value of bathing in blood, the most prolific female serial killer in history slaughtered her way through her vast estate’s preteen population.
